Invac v Kilpatrick Thistle at Colville Park

10am  10 May 2014

Glasgow & District Saturday Morning League, League Cup Final at Colville Park AFC
Invac 4 Kilpatrick Thistle 3 (att 54)

Ten o'clock in the morning seems a strange time for a cup final, but when it's to decide the Glasgow and District Saturday Morning League Cup I guess it makes sense. Despite the early start I spotted one group of supporters with a half-finished bottle of Buckfast ahead of kick off!

I'm no expert on this league, but a glance at the league tables showed that likely Premier Division champions Invac would be clear favourites against Division One Kilpatrick. Yet it was the lower division side who took the lead, scoring the first half's only goal.

To be honest it was an ordinary first half, but the game really came to life after the break. Invac scored two quick goals to get in front, but just when it seemed Kilpatrick's challenge was over they scored again to make it 2-2.

A third goal for Invac soon followed, making four goals in about nine minutes. A fourth goal for the Premier Division side effectively put the game out of Kilpatrick's reach. A very late penalty gave them hope, but there was too little time left to threaten another goal.

The venue was a very pleasant ground, with a rural feel, on the edge of Motherwell. Golf seems to be the main sport at Colville Park, but among the other facilities is the home of Central Scottish Amateur League side Colville Park AFC. The pitch was immaculate, and partly enclosed by a wooden fence.
