Nelson v Maine Road at Accrington & Rossendale College

7.45pm  11 July 2013

Pre Season Friendly at Accrington and Rossendale College
Nelson 1 Maine Road 3 (att 50)

I'm not a huge fan of pre-season friendlies, but watch them occasionally and this match appealed as it was close to home and give me a chance to tick an unusual venue.

The 3G pitch at Accrington and Rossendale College (also known as ACCROSS) is Nelson's training ground, and is staging several of the club's warm up matches for the North West Counties League season ahead.

Visitors Maine Road are from the same league, but play a division higher, and a pair of late goals ensured the result was as expected, and deserved on the balance of play. Earlier in the second half Nelson had drawn level, after going behind in the first half.

For a friendly the game wasn't bad, and the reasonable attendance and the presence of a match programme gave it the feel of  "proper" match.

The 3G venue is a typical floodlit pitch inside a high fence, but the surrounding countryside is attractive and all in all it was a decent evening out. More friendlies on 3G pitches are on my agenda for this weekend.
