Lepton Highlanders v Overthorpe Sports Club

11 May 2012
West Riding County Amateur League, Division One
Lepton Highlanders 2 Overthorpe Sports Club 2 (att 36)

My third trip across the Pennines in as many nights, this time to see the club who've already won the West Riding County Amateur League's middle division and, with one match left to play, are still unbeaten.

Overthorpe have finished third and provided a stern test, thoroughly deserving the draw. Although the result was never going to have much effect on the league table it was an entertaining game, and when the match lulled there were plenty of familiar faces among the spectators to entertain.

Given the location of their Wakefield Road ground, Lepton are well named. It's high up, which gives the benefit of nice views of the surrounding countryside, and the towering Emley Moor TV mast (apparently, according the Wikipedia, the UK's tallest freestanding structure), but the downside is that it can be very cold, even in May.
