Skerries Town v Lucan United

2.30pm  2 October 2011
Leinster Senior League, Senior Division 1B
Skerries Town 1 Lucan United 1 (att 38)

Final match of a hectic football-filled weekend in Ireland, and a cracking match at a nice ground in the very pleasant seaside town of Skerries.

Skerries have made a poor start to the season, but showed enough in this draw against the league leaders to suggest they should climb away from relegation to the league's "junior" divisions (the top four tiers are "intermediate", below that "junior").

I hope they do, as their neat and tidy ground deserves to host a good standard of football. The main feature is a two-tiered clubhouse, which contains the changing rooms, and the pitch is tightly enclosed by houses and flats on three sides, and an adjacent GAA ground on the clubhouse side.

All the goals came in the second half. Lucan took the lead, but Skerries came back strongly, equalising with a penalty, and were unlucky not to get a winner as they finished the game the stronger side.
