Lutterworth Town v Friar Lane & Epworth

1 September 2011
Leicestershire Senior League, League Cup 1st Round
Lutterworth Town 1 Friar Lane and Epworth 1, 4-2 on penalties (att 50)

A new ground for Lutterworth, apparently only temporary for this season, and a game on an otherwise almost football-free Thursday night tempted groundhoppers from far and wide.

Not sure what the few locals made of the influx of visitors - perhaps they think Friar Lane have a large and eccentric following.

Lutterworth's latest home venue, the third I've seen them on, is just a taped off pitch on a recreation ground. There's a pair of dugouts, but they're assembled for each match and removed afterwards. Programmes were available free from the home dugout.

Without floodlights, a 6.30 kick off was optimistic now we're in September and the referee wisely played two 40 minutes halves. Just as well as Lutterworth's very late equaliser took the game to a penalty shoot out, in which Friar Lane never recovered from missing their first two.
