Carleton Sports Club v Barlick Wanderers

6.20pm 13 May 2024

Craven and District League, Division Two
Carleton Sports Club 8 Barlick Wanderers 1 (att 30)

An easy win for Carleton against a Barlick side who were playing their final league fixture of the season, and were destined to finish bottom regardless of the outcome.

With everyone ready well before the scheduled 6.30 kick off time, the action got underway around 10 minutes early. As a result, Barlick Wanderers were a goal down even before the match should have begun.

The home side scored four before half time, one a penalty, and added four more in the second period. The visitors had the consolation of getting the game's final goal, also penalty, about 20 minutes from the end.

Carleton play at Ramper Park, just outside the village. It's a basic but scenic venue, with a car park, pitch and a small pavilion that houses the changing rooms.

It's very much a rural venue, to the extent that, early in the second half, inquisitive cows in an adjacent field temporarily boosted the numbers watching the game.
