AFC Middleton v Brushes Rangers Spartak

7.15pm  5 April 2018

Manchester Saturday Morning League, Division One
AFC Middleton 10 Brushes Rangers Spartak 0 (att 8)

A Saturday morning game on a Thursday evening is a sure sign we've entered the 'silly season', the final few weeks of the football season when clubs often play multiple matches a week to clear fixture backlogs.

AFC Middleton's regular home ground was unavailable for this game, hence a switch to a newly-installed 3G pitch at the Manchester Communication Academy in Harpurhey, close enough to my home to tempt me along to watch.

Brushes Rangers Spartak are usually among the stronger sides in this league, but I assume they were short of a few regulars for this game as they were totally outplayed by title-chasing Middleton.

The hosts had the game won when they scored three times in the opening 10 minutes. Two more followed before half time, and they added another five in the second half.

Despite the limited opposition, AFC Middleton played some good football and it was enjoyable to watch. I guess it served as a useful warm up ahead of their crucial weekend clash with fellow championship challengers Hazel Grove.
